Hey there kids, did you know that there are Catholic churches everywhere, even in faraway places like Japan or close ones like Norwood? It’s like a big family! Jesus started it a long time ago with just twelve friends, and now, guess what? There are over 1 BILLION Catholics in the world. That’s a huge number – if you imagine a billion kids standing on each other’s shoulders, they could reach the moon and back!! If you had a billion goldfish, you would need a fish tank the size of Gillette Stadium!
So, how did the church get so big? Well, it’s like a chain reaction of friendship. Remember our Gospel story this morning? John told two of his friends about Jesus. One of them told his brother, and then it just kept going for more than 2000 years. It’s like we have all been invited to a big party!
Nowadays, you can find Catholic churches everywhere, and anyone can just walk in to learn about Jesus. There are even cool ads on the internet inviting people. But you know what’s super awesome? Most people go to Mass because a friend invited them. So, if you have a friend or cousin who doesn’t go to Sunday Mass, maybe you can be like a superhero friend and invite them! Moms and Dads, you can be superheroes as well by inviting your neighbors or co-workers to Mass. Imagine how many more friends we could have if everyone invited someone. We could make the church even bigger, like three billion people! How cool would that be?
