Lord, I Pray That I Never Arrive

I use to pray for arrival, to accomplish my goals, to attain my desired ends.

I use to walk with the destination in mind.

But I have arrived, I have accomplished goals, I have attained my desired ends. And yet I yearn for more walking, for new goals, for still greater desired ends.

The quality of one’s life is not in where they ended up but in where they went along the way.

So, Dear Lord, I pray that I never arrive, never stop walking, never get lazy or complacent or satisfied.

There is more work to be done, more joy to be had, more lives to be liberated, more destinies reoriented, and more miles to go before we sleep.

Yes, many, many more miles to go….
