When Color Falls

This image was a mistake... an accidental shutter press as I was repositioning myself in order to set up for the more practical, traditional, expected waterfall shot. Yet, in going through my library, this one earmarked for erasure stood out. The colors, for reasons I can’t explain, showed a sharp contrast between the warmer reds of the coming reflected sunset and the cooler blues of the pulsing water. Why the chromatic distinction right there in the middle? No idea. It’s light-spectrum-physics-stuff and I can’t help you there.

But all of the “practical, traditional, expected” shots were just that. And I’ve stood in that spot countless times before and captured the very same. The sameness. And all quite forgettable.

But it was this to be erased shot that captured my attention. I found myself drawn in by the colors, the slow shutter speed blurring of motion, the unique composition. What exactly am I looking at here, I wondered?

So, I erased all the others instead.
