The Sun’s Last Stand

JRS05160

As the sun completes its course, taking its warmth and light with it, darkness settles in. But not yet; not at this moment, this one, wonderful moment.

In this captured instant, the night creeps in from above, eager to assert its will on the world. But not yet; not at this moment, this one, special moment.

We weren’t quite done with the day, hesitant to relinquish our hold on this soothing seaside retreat. But orange, yellow, and the myriad amalgams of the two pastels were retreating before the cascading descent of blue, cerulean, and indigo, and we knew our time was short. But not yet; not at this moment, this one, peaceful moment.

With day giving way to night, as it has and as it will, there was still light to behold, still day to be had, still warmth to be welcomed . . . the sun’s last stand.
