The Rookery

According to dictionary.com, a rookery is defined as: “a breeding colony of rooks, typically seen as a collection of nests high in a clump of trees.” Before hearing about a nearby rookery recently, I had never heard the word before. And the word rook only meant a valuable chess piece to me.

Early this morning, to continue my newfound interest in bird photography, I headed out for the local rookery. The above shot was taken on an iPhone just to record the location. As I reviewed images later, I was struck by the quality of the image and the beauty of the place. While there, I saw a kingfisher and several great blue herons. My time was limited but I’ll be back. For sure, I’ll be back.
