Somewhere Here

We all want to go somewhere our problems can’t follow:
Along a trail that will lead us somewhere not here,
Somewhere interesting, somewhere grand,
Somewhere beautiful, somewhere new.

We all want to go somewhere our fears can’t follow:
Along a trail that will lead us somewhere not here,
Somewhere safe, somewhere secure,
Somewhere tranquil, somewhere serene.

We all want to go somewhere our pain can’t follow:
Along a trail that will lead us somewhere not here,
Somewhere peaceful, somewhere calm,
Somewhere restful, somewhere quiet.

We all want to go somewhere, but when we go, we go:
Along a trail that will lead us somewhere not here,
All that we are goes. All our problems, all our fears, all our pains.
So why go? What do we hope to find somewhere not here?

We all want to go somewhere, but I say, let that somewhere be here,
Along a trail that will lead us where we are, right here and now,
To a here that has problems, to a here that has pain,
A here that we fear, a here that’s here to stay.

Though we wander in our minds along distant trails
Hoping there’s a tomorrow out there somewhere,
Let us accept where we are in our lives, with a commitment to healing and to growing
So that someday we only want to go somewhere, somewhere here.
