19 waterfalls. Something like 800 stone steps altogether. 1.5 miles out and then 1.5 miles back. Watkins Glen State Park in Upstate New York has long caught my fancy so I’ve been looking for an excuse to stop by for the photo ops.

When I received an invitation several months ago to speak to a group nearby to the area, I immediately began plotting on my calendar and a map. Could I possibly sneak a side trip to the gorge either to or from the venue? Could those stars ever align?
Thankfully, they did…

I was awestruck by the sheer volume of photographic possibilities, all in a highly condensed geographic area. I’m accustomed to trekking great distances for the one or two great landscape shots. But here and within earshot of the parking lot and after a steep drop into the canyon, I immediately started to plant my camera on the tripod I carried in to record the stunning scenery.
Highly recommended!
