  1. I want to wish everyone Happy Dependence Day!

On this Fourth of July, I’d like to suggest that we celebrate our dependence on one another. Even the very founding of our nation relied on such dependence. Each colony engaged in endless haggling and compromise over a lengthy period before arriving at the moment in July of 1776 when all thirteen were willing to vote “yes” on the resolution that we have since celebrated annually. No vision for our country’s future, nor the world’s for that matter, will be realized until we acknowledge and embrace that we are all deeply connected, truly and at the most elemental biological level. There is no “them.” It is only us. All of us. Together, dependent on the different gifts we each bring to the task and reliant on the solidarity of our cosmic connection, we will refine our democracy for current and future generations. Happy Dependence Day, indeed.
